In a surprise move, a UBS team head for Hong Kong has resigned from the bank to join a pure-play private bank.
A UBS country team head who resigned from the bank in August has resurfaced at J. Safra Sarasin: Peter So, who joined UBS in October 2015 from Credit Suisse where he was head of private banking in Hong Kong.
At the time, the hire had made headlines because of So's profile in the region as well as his experience in Swiss banking. Just before his departure, So hired Andy Tam from Credit Suisse in July as a desk head on UBS' Hong Kong country team.
Second Big Hire
Confirming his departure, UBS said it had appointed Jamee Wong as So's replacement. Wong was promoted internally to fill the position.
This is J. Safra Sarasin's secod big hire from UBS, last year it appointed Vinay Gandhi a managing director and former head of ultra high-net-worth business at UBS as its Chief Executive for its ultra high-net-worth business in Asia.
