Malaysia's Sessions Court ruled on Friday that he will be allowed to return to the U.S to face criminal charges against him.
Former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng will not challenge the U.S. Department of Justice's (DoJ) application for him to be extradited to the U.S. to face criminal charges relating to his role in the 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, «Reuters» reported on Friday.
Ng will return to the U.S. within 30 days, pending an order from the Malaysian home affairs ministry. He is facing charges relating to 1MDB in the U.S. and Malaysia. According to his lawyer Marc Agnifilo, Ng intends to plead not guilty when he appears in the District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
Ng was a managing director at Goldman until his departure in May 2014, and has been detained in Kuala Lumpur since November 2018, shortly after the DoJ announced charges against him
The DoJ has also levied criminal charges against Jho Low and Tim Leissner, Ng's former colleague at Goldman Sachs. Goldman Sachs itself has been under scrutiny for its role as underwriter and arranger of three bond sales that raised US$6.5 billion for the 1MDB investment fund.
