Based in Hong Kong, he leads UBP’s macroeconomic research in Asia and serves as a key link between the Asian investment teams and global economic research.
The Swiss pure-play named Carlos Casanova as senior economist to lead the bank’s macroeconomic research on Asia, based out of Hong Kong, the firm told finews.asia.
Reporting functionally to Patrice Gautry, chief economist and regionally to Edouard Hoepffner, head of investment services Asia, Casanova will support UBP's Global Investment Committee in global asset allocation and offer the firm's clients local economic and investment insights from Asia.
Casanova has been based in Hong Kong since 2014. He was most recently economist, Asia Pacific at Coface, where he was responsible for managing the company’s research on Asian economies, and has also served as Eeonomist for Spanish multinational banking group Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) in Hong Kong and the European Commission in Beijing.
Important Market
Casanova's appointment «reflects Asia’s increasing importance as a growth market for UBP,» the spokesperson told finews.asia.
In April, UBP hired three senior relationship managers – Fiona Kam, Ula Ju and Mary Cheung – in Hong Kong as part of a wider ongoing expansion of UBP’s Hong Kong business with a focus on its front office.
