Hong Kong authorities announced the much-anticipated shortening of hotel quarantines for inbound travellers, more than halving the period from seven days to three days.
Effective August 12 this week, incoming travellers into Hong Kong will undergo a shortened hotel quarantine period of three days followed by medical surveillance at home for another four days, according to the city’s chief executive John Lee at a media briefing today.
The decision was widely anticipated after a planned press conference to make the announcement last Friday was reportedly cancelled due to unresolved technical problems.
Under the new ‘3+4’ arrangement, inbound travellers will be subject to relatively loose rules in the four days of medical surveillance following the reduced hotel quarantine. During the four-day period, travellers can leave their homes but will be required to use a China-styled color-based health system that will restrict access to certain premises deemed high risk.
