BNY Mellon Investment Management has appointed a new president for Japan to succeed former president Shogo Yamaguchi.
Katsutoshi Endo has been named representative director and president of the American asset manager’s Japan unit, according to a statement, effective April 1 this year. Endo succeeds ex-president Shogo Yamaguchi who will stay with the firm as its director and chairman.
Endo was most recently the head of retail sales and marketing after first joining BNY Mellon Investment Management in August 2016. Previously, he spent over 12 years with AllianceBernstein Japan where he held various senior roles including deputy head of Japan client group, head of institutional sales and head of product management.
«Japan is a strategically important market for us, where we have been present for more than 22 years,» said Matt Oomen, global head of distribution at BNY Mellon Investment Management.
Asia Expansion
Aside from Japan, BNY Mellon Investment Management (IM) has been expanding in the broader Asia Pacific region.
In September last year, the firm acquired a new license in Taiwan that would allow it to strengthen relationships and conduct marketing activities locally with Taipei-based Rebecca Chu leading the efforts as head of Taiwan. In the same month, BNY Mellon IM’s Hong Kong unit also hired Barnaby Jones and Victor Lam as vice president for institutional distribution and vice president for intermediary distribution, respectively.
In December, BNY Mellon IM hired Paul Bolionowsky, ex-CEO of boutique asset manager Glennon Capital, as its Sydney-based country manager for Australia.
