Credit Suisse has made a series of new additions to its North Asia private banking, finews.asia has learned, including J.P. Morgan’s ex-head of the China market.

Credit Suisse has hired Stella Lau as a private banking market leader for Greater China Singapore, according to an internal memo seen by finews.asia, effective August 23.

Lau will be the second market leader for Greater China Singapore – alongside John Huang – and reports to Ken Cheong Lock, market group head, private banking Greater China Singapore.

Lau rejoins Credit Suisse after previously working for the private bank’s to cover the Greater China market from 2010 to 2012, Prior to rejoining, she was most recently with J.P. Morgan as its China market head for four years. She also previously worked for UBS as a China desk head and team leader for ultra-high net worth individuals in the Singapore and Malaysia market.

North Asia Expansion

Credit Suisse has also hired a series of senior private bankers for the North Asia unit.

Shirley Li joins the bank as an expert relationship manager for the China market. She has over 20 years of China banking experience and was most recently the head of private banking and wealth management at CMB Wing Lung Bank.

Teresa Tam has been hired as an expert relationship manager for the Hong Kong market. She has more than 30 years of financial experience, joining from Bank J. Safra Sarasin where she was a senior relationship manager.

Sanjeev Sharma, ex-senior advisor and Greater China market cluster head since 2017, joins the bank’s North Asia Switzerland market team as a Zurich-based senior expert relationship manager. 

Yandy Tano has been hired as a Singapore-based expert relationship manager, joining from DBS Private Bank. He has more than 10 years of private banking experience, having worked for the former Bank Sarasin, BNP Paribas and Julius Baer. 

Jae-Ock Li joins as a Hong Kong-based senior relationship manager for Japan and Korea International. She was most recently a relationship manager with UBS where she worked for 12 years.

The bank also hired Leon Mok as an investment consultant for the Hong Kong market. Mok has 16 years of investment and private banking experience, including 12 years with HSBC.

June Hires

Year-to-date, Credit Suisse has made 100 net hires in Asia Pacific across all levels and functions including 30 relationship managers in the first quarter. In June alone, the bank added 11 relationship managers to the North Asia private banking unit.

A spokesperson for the bank confirmed the contents of the memo.
