The Boston-headquartered asset manager has created a new role to help it expand and accelerate its growth in Japan.

State Street has appointed Taro Kuryuzawa as country head for Japan, effective immediately, according to a statement on Thursday. Based in Tokyo, he will report to Mostapha Tahiri, chief executive officer for Asia Pacific.

Kuryuzawa joined State Street in May this year from Deloitte Tohmatsu, where he was head of institutional investor coverage in Japan and global lead client service partner, overseeing large insurers and global institutional investor accounts in Japan. He previously held senior roles at Citigroup, including its global private equity fund, CVC International, for almost a decade.

Important Market

In his new role, Kuryuzawa will be responsible for the firm's business activities in Japan, including driving strategy, developing talent, pursuing growth opportunities, as well as managing relationships with Japanese clients, partners, officials and regulators.

«Japan is one of our most important markets in Asia Pacific and during our past 35 years of presence we have built a unique position supporting our clients with a comprehensive and innovative suite of solutions,» Tahiri said in the statement.

The firm first established a presence in Japan in 1986, and currently has offices in Tokyo and Fukuoka.
