Australian bank ANZ has announced the appointment of a new Chief Economist, Southeast Asia and India, reporting to Khoon Goh, ANZ’s Head of Asia Research.

Sanjay Mathur joins from Royal Bank of Scotland where he was Head of Economics Research (Asia ex-Japan) leading research teams across economics, foreign exchange, rates and credit. Prior to this he held senior economic roles at Barclays and UBS.

At ANZ Mathur will be responsible for providing macroeconomic analysis and insight on key Asian markets with a particular focus on Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and India, the bank said in a press release to finews.asia.

Mathur will be based in Singapore and is expected to commence the new position in February.

«Sanjay’s extensive economic experience and deep knowledge of both Southeast Asia and India markets will be highly valued by our clients during a period of significant reform within the region,» said Goh.
