Shock resignation of veteran banker less than a year since joining the bank, after having spent almost two decades in a market-facing role at BNP Paribas.
A well-known name in the Southeast Asia market and a veteran banker with decades of experience, Reshmi Sehgal (pictured left) has resigned from her position as a managing director at Pictet, as finews.asia can reveal.
She joined the Genevan bank only in January of this year, as a senior member of its Singapore team. Sehgal had cultivated a large network within the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) space during the two decades she spent as a senior banker at BNP Paribas and continued to serve NRI clients at Pictet.
Pictet's Indian Ambitions
For larger European lenders such as BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, and Credit Suisse, the NRI segment has long been an area of focus. Pictet however, has only recently hired several high-profile bankers to focus on the NRI market segment.
The demographic is also believed to be an area which Pictet wealth management co-head Boris Collardi wants to develop further and one he is extremely well-acquainted with. Collardi built up an extensive network amongst NRI clients and bankers during his time as CEO of rival Swiss bank Julius Baer.
Another Hire
Sanjeev Premchand, who resigned from Julius Baer in February this year after nearly 15 years with the bank, joined Pictet as a senior relationship manager in Zurich. Premchand was made responsible for the bank's ultra-rich clients from the Middle East and Asia, including the Indian sub-continent.
