The Malaysian government is re-evaluating a 1MDB-related settlement deal made by the previous administration and Goldman Sachs.
Malaysia’s special task force on 1MDB is reviewing the $3.9 billion settlement deal between Goldman Sachs and the previous government, according to a report by state media «Bernama» citing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
«I agree because from the very start, I found that the deal was made in haste, and that's why it raised a lot of questions […] because we should get a bigger amount,» Ibrahim said.
In 2020, during the administration of Muhyiddin Yassin, Goldman Sachs reached an agreement that included $2.5 billion in cash and a guaranteed return of $1.4 billion in assets to settle a criminal probe into the bank’s involvement in the 1MDB scandal.
