Singapore’s headline money laundering case has seen the tenth and final arrested individual sentenced to jail.

Su Jianfeng, 36, has been sentenced to 17 months in jail, according to a «Straits Times» report citing court proceedings, after pleading guilty to money laundering and forgery. Another 12 charges, ranging from other forgery and money laundering to labor-related offences, were taken into consideration.

This follows the sentencing of the ninth individual, Wang Dehai, to 16 months in jail last week. The other eight convicted – Su Wenqiang, Su Haijin, Su Baolin, Wang Baosen, Vang Shuiming, Zhang Ruijin, Chen Qingyuan and Lin Baoying – were jailed for 13 to 15 months each. Four were deported to Cambodia and one to Japan.

17 Other Suspects

Aside from the 10 arrested, another 17 suspects who are not in Singapore are under investigation. According to a statement by local police, their seized assets will remain under custody until the conclusion of the case by the court.

«To protect Singapore’s financial system, the Police will spare no effort to detect abuse, arrest the criminals and deprive them of their ill-gotten gains,» said David Chew director of Commercial Affairs Department (CAD), a white-collar crime investigation agency. «In Singapore, these criminals will not find safe harbour for themselves or their wealth.»
