A local university in Hong Kong has formed a new institute to support the city's ambitions as an international financial hub.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has established the Institute for Financial Research, according to a statement. 

The institute will act as an interdisciplinary and international platform to address the key challenges and opportunities facing Hong Kong as an international financial hub. Four interdisciplinary research centers have been formed within the institute focusing on technological innovations; environmental and social responsibility; wealth management; and macro-finance and geo-economics. 

Seasoned Academician

Dong Lou will serve as the director of the Institute for Financial Research. Lou is chair professor of finance and Citi professor of business at HKUST as well as an associate dean of HKUST Business School. Previously, he was a professor of finance at the London School of Economics.

Lou frequently advises government organizations and regularly consults for investment management companies.
