Major industry shaping announcements are expected during Asia's premier financial technology event. This years Singapore Fintech Festival will also see royalty and leading political figures in attendance.
The fintech community in Singapore and the wider region will be watching carefully when Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) managing director Ravi Menon (pictured above) makes his keynote address, «The Singapore Fintech Agenda» on Tuesday morning.
When it comes to embracing fintech the MAS has been a leading proactive regulator and more ground breaking initiatives are expected to be announced at this years event, which finews.asia will be reporting from each day.
African Influence
For the first time in the region there will also be African participation with Kenyan fintech Alternative Circle, led by Kevin Mutiso (pictured below) and Anthony Kariuki presenting and featuring in the Singapore Fintech Awards.
With a lack of established banking infrastructure and vast geographic challenges African fintechs were among the first to make tangible breakthroughs. Among Alternative Circle's products is Shika is a micro lending mobile application for people who are looking for quick loans.
Australian bank ANZ has gone on record as saying it wants to operate more like a startup and has been aggressively recruiting technology experts to make the transition happen.
Attendees will be keen to hear from Maile Carnegie (pictured below) the group executive Digital Banking at ANZ on how the bank is progressing. Carnegie joined ANZ in 2016 from Google where she had been managing director Australia and New Zealand since 2013.
