Standard Chartered appointed a new head of commercial real estate based in Singapore. The banker joins from a major rival.
Based in Standard Chartered's Singapore office, Steven Cranwell will be responsible for the bank’s commercial real estate segment and be a member of the global banking management team. Cranwell will report to Paul Skelton, global head of banking. The appointment becomes effective end February 2018, subject to regulatory approval.
Cranwell joins Standard Chartered from HSBC where most recently he was head of commercial banking for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey. Prior to that he held various senior leadership positions at National Australia Bank including as Hong Kong CEO.
Dearth of Talent
Bill Winters, Standard Chartered chief executive, meanwhile branded his bank’s preparations for Brexit as «inconvenient and expensive». Speaking to the «BBC» recently, Winters said that the U.K.’s decision to leave the European Union will damage London and that it was already affecting the City’s talent pool.
On Asia, where the bank generates a large chunk of its business, the CEO said Donald Trump is making a big mistake in allowing China to grow its global economic influence in areas from which the U.S. is retreating.
