6. Puzzle «Self Destruction»
It is puzzling to see with how much verve GAM escalated the case Haywood. What company chooses to get itself into a situation from which it can only escape with a badly tarnished reputation? GAM even accepted the risk of becoming a takeover candidate.
It suggests that the company preferred communicating the bad news instead of having an outside authority do it instead. The likely consequence of this would have been worse for sure – with clients even less chuffed about it. Nevertheless, the way GAM went about informing the public remains surprising.
