After three years in India, Harald Egger is returning to UBS headquarters in Zurich. He was instrumental in pursuing the bank’s change of paradigm back to insourcing.
Egger went to Mumbai at the end of 2017. One of his major tasks was to implement the turnaround from outsourcing to insourcing, in the country often associated with the establishment of third-party IT service firms.
Egger to Remain as Chairman
UBS wanted to perform 60 percent of its back office and IT service in-house, which was a significant about-turn for the Swiss banking giant. With this task in hand and as global head of group services at the bank, Egger moved to India. He also assumed the position as country head.
Now, the veteran UBS manager will return to Switzerland, as the bank said in a statement on Monday. He was nominated as chairman of UBS India while remaining the UBS group head of corporate services.
Head of Technology to Replace Egger
Uday Odedra will replace Egger as head of India, starting in 2021. Odedra, who has been with UBS for the past two decades, was based in London before becoming a founding member of the team which established the UBS Business Solution Centers in India in 2015.
He played a central role in developing UBS’ digital and technology presence in the country, which today has more than 3,000 members of staff.
Odedra held various roles in group technology before being named head of technology, APAC in 2017.
