HSBC’s asset management arm makes an internal promotion to appoint a new chief investment officer for Asia Pacific.
Cecilia Chan will become the APAC CIO of HSBC Global Asset Management, according to a statement, effective from February 2021 onwards. Chan will report to Joanna Munro, global CIO for the business.
Chan is currently the APAC fixed income CIO for HSBC Global Asset Management where she first joined over 20 years ago in 1994. She has a 33-year track record covering Asian markets, particularly fixed income, and prior to joining HSBC was a sell-side quant research specialist covering APAC equities.
CIO Reshuffle
Chan replaces Bill Maldonado, a 30-year executive at HSBC Global Asset Management and the current CIO for Asia Pacific and global equities, who will be leaving to pursue other opportunities.
A successor for Chan will be named in due course, the statement added.
«[Chan’s] appointment also attests to our continued efforts to create a truly motivated, diverse and inclusive environment where female leaders are empowered and recognized,» said Munro.
