He will oversee the firm's Business Development & Digitalisation, Technology Solutions, Risk Management & Actuarial Services, and Technical Services functions, and will join the company’s Executive Committee.
MSIG Asia, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance, has hired Clemens Philippi as chief operating officer, the firm announced in a statement on Tuesday.
Clemens brings more than 20 years of experience in the general insurance industry and has worked in Luxembourg, London and Tokyo. He relocated to Singapore in 2015 to take up the CEO position for Asean at Allianz subsidiary Euler Hermes.
He will work with the company’s senior leadership team to help drive profitable and sustainable growth in the financial and insurance market. He reports to Alan Wilson, chief executive officer of MSIG Asia and deputy head of the international business department at Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance.

MSIG said the new role of COO is a testament to its commitment to Asia and underlines its ambition in the region. «The business environment remains extremely challenging and dynamic, but at the same time we are well placed for sustainable growth,» Wilson said in the statement.

Earlier this year, the firm promoted chief risk officer William Song (pictured above) to the role of executive vice president, overseeing the company’s risk management and actuarial services for the region.
Song joined MSIG Asia in 2010 and has 20 years of experience in the insurance industry from different insurance markets around Asia-Pacific.
