The world's second-largest reinsurer is strengthening the leadership of its Property & Casualty and Life & Health (L&H) businesses as it aims to support regional expansion.
Global reinsurer Swiss Re has made four key appointments in Asia Pacific: Anna Lee, head of new business development, property and casualty (P&C), Southeast Asia, India, Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan (SID); Simon Herbert, head of casualty underwriting for SID; Ronnie Tong, head of P&C facultative Asia; and Li Hui Lee, Asia underwriting propositions lead, L&H, the firm announced on Tuesday.
Lee, who has held a variety of senior positions at the firm over her 17 years there, takes on a new role in which she is tasked to drive deal origination and business growth, reporting directly to Victor Kuk, Swiss Re's head of P&C reinsurance, SID. She was Swiss Re's head of P&C reinsurance for Hong Kong and Taiwan and, most recently head of business services, Asia (including ANZ), where she led a regional team of more than 50 people.
At the same time, a 25-year industry veteran has been named Swiss Re's new head of casualty underwriting. Herbert joins the firm from AmGeneral Insurance, a joint venture between IAG and Ambank, where he was most recently its chief underwriting officer. Herbert replaces Siew Choi Yau, who in January, took on a new role as head of P&C solutions, APAC.
Casualty Business Strengthens
Swiss Re has also brought in a new Singapore-based head of P&C Facultative Asia who will oversee its underwriting expertise and implement innovative solutions to better serve its clients' facultative reinsurance needs, the announcement said.

L&H Boost
Lee, who joined Swiss Re's regional L&H solutions team in 2015, will assume the role of Asia underwriting propositions lead from July 1, a role in which she will draw on the group’s broad expertise and global insights to refine client offerings and core services in relation to automation, data insights, technology advancement, partnerships and the latest research and development.
