BlackRock has named Rachel Lord as chair and head of BlackRock Asia Pacific, a Hong Kong-based role effective 1 May, the firm announced in a statement on Tuesday.

Lord joined BlackRock in 2013 from Citibank, where she was global head of corporate equity derivatives, and previously spent 13 years at Morgan Stanley. She was most recently BlackRock's head of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), driving regional business transformation over the past three years.

«Strategic Priority»

Mark Wiedman, BlackRock’s head of international and corporate strategy, said the appointment of one of the firm’s strongest leaders to lead its APAC business «underscores [its] commitment to the fast-growing region as a top strategic priority for BlackRock.»

«We are rapidly transforming our business to match APAC investors’ aspirations. Who we are and what we offer must reflect the region and its needs, so the opportunity to accelerate BlackRock’s APAC business over the next decade is a game changer,» Lord said in the statement.
