He succeeds Ralph Ronnenberg, who returns to Munich to take on a new role as head reinsurance controlling for Munich Re Group.
Munich Re has appointed Scott Hawkins as managing director, Australasia, effective from 1 April 2021, according to an announcement on Thursday.
Based in Sydney, he will be responsible for overseeing the leadership and strategic steering of Munich Re’s businesses in Australia and New Zealand, as well as being principal officer of Munich Holdings Australasia, the announcement said. He will report to Tobias Farny, chief executive, Asia Pacific – Greater China and ANZ.
Deep Expertise
Hawkins joined Munich Re in Australia in 2005, and has been its head of non-life for the past six years.
He brings more than 25 years of experience in non-life insurance and reinsurance business and possesses deep technical expertise and understanding of the challenges and opportunities of the insurance industry in Australia and internationally.
