The incoming CEO, a 17-year veteran of the bank, is expected to build on the momentum of its digital transformation and sustainable growth initiatives.
Citi has appointed Brendan Carney as chief executive officer (CEO) of Citibank Singapore and ASEAN cluster head of its Global Consumer Banking (GCB) division, the bank announced in a press release on Friday.
The appointment follows the departure of the bank's former Singapore chief Han Kwee Juan, who left to join DBS after a 27-year career Citi.
In his new role, Carney will manage the Citi Singapore's consumer business and is responsible for the leadership of the consumer franchise in its ASEAN cluster. He reports to Gonzalo Luchetti, head of Consumer Banking for Asia Pacific and EMEA and Amol Gupte, ASEAN head and Citi country officer (CCO), Singapore. He will also become a member of the GCB Regional leadership team and the ASEAN management team.
Strong Track Record
Carney, who joined Citi in 2002 was most recently its country branch manager for South Korea, a role he has held since 2015. During this time, he led a successful turnaround of the Citi's consumer business in the country and expanded its digital capabilities, while transforming the branch network in the country.
He was also consumer business manager and vice president of the management board for Citi Handlowy in Poland, and the CCO and country business manager for Belgium.
