The firm has hired a pair of ESG specialists, as it continues the build-out of its Regional Centre of Excellence for Sustainability (CoES) in Singapore.
Schroders has announced the appointments of Mervyn Tang as the head of sustainability strategy, APAC, and Wong Dan Chi as Head of ESG Integration, Asia Pacific, the British asset manager said in a statement on Thursday.
Initially based in Hong Kong, Tang will relocate to Singapore by the end of the year to lead the CoES. He will report locally to Roy Diao, head of Asian fixed income, and Lily Choh, country head of Singapore, with a functional reporting line to Hannah Simons, head of sustainability strategy, in London.
Wong will work with the heads of the various Asia Pacific investment desks to drive further integration of Schroders’ proprietary sustainability research and tools into the overall investment processes. Dan Chi will report to Stephanie Chang, Head of ESG Integration, in London.
Deep Expertise
Tang joins Schroders from Fitch, where he was global head of ESG research, sustainable finance, and was previously head of fixed income, ESG research at MSCI. He has also held roles at the Bank of England and Citigroup.
Wong joined Schroders in March 2020, following two years at Nikko Asset Management and eight years at sustainability/ESG consultancy Paia.
Sustainability Push
The buildout of the CoES with dedicated Sustainability headcounts is part of Schroders’ plans to advance its ESG push in the region, and there are plans to further grow this regional sustainability team over the longer term, the announcement said.
The Singapore-based CoES team will form an integral part of Schroders’ global sustainability team of over 20 specialists, led by global head of sustainable investment Andy Howard.
The CoES was established in Singapore in October last year and includes an ESG education hub that works with clients and partners across the region to drive larger-scale ESG fluency and upskilling.
